Yesterday I left work at about 345...expecting to be at my parents by 445...but as soon as I got on the entrance ramp to the beltway there was a horrible backup do to an accident. So I didn't get to my parents house until probably 530.
eurodancemix met me there and then we high tailed it to Rockville for some yummy ribs. We then hopped on the metro down to DC...we knew that
famblueraincoat and
manjimaru were going to be at the George Michael concert also.
We got to the Verizon center around 730 and got our tickets...Even though there were signs everywhere saying no cameras, we totally could have brought ours. But I absentmindedly forgot mine. After we got our tickets we ran into
manjimaru and crew and chatted for a few minutes. It's funny because on the front of our tickets, it said the show was going to start promptly at 8pm....um no...try like 830...typical musician. But anyway we made our way down to our seats and saw
famblueraincoat and started chatting with him which was awesome.
So the show started at 830, ended at 1110 and he had a 20 minute intermission. I didn't get home until 1 this morning and for me, that's REALLY late for a school night. I slept till 530 this morning...I am totally dragging ass...I can't wait to get home and go to bed...and I just got to work.
The show..it was good...he was really in good voice and the mix was awesome...because I have been to some concerts where you can't understand a word they are saying. There were a few songs that I wish he would have done...such as....Freek, I want your sex, Monkey and Wake me up before you go go. He did do a good cross section of his hit.
Now for the stuff that I didn't like, he looked horrible. I think his years of partying have taken there toll on him. The other thing, which was good and bad was his stage. It was an interesting set up..he had a huge LED screen that ran vertically down the center of the stage and as the backdrop....to the left and right of it was his band on 3 seperate levels...then he had an LED screen on each side of that. The LED's were awesome...but in my personal opinion I thought he used them way too much...I think they detracted from him. Maybe that was the point. The other thing is I thought the concert dragged in a few spots...that could possibly be because I like most of his dance stuff...I don't mind some of his ballads but not totally into them.
As far as the crowd...it was an interesting cross section of feygeles and women who dragged their boyfriends to the show. All I can say is, it's scary to see how many of these gay men are trying to stay looking in their 20s even though they are clearly in their 30s if not 40s.
I think the highlights of the show were when he did Outside and he came out dressed like a cop, and having video footage during some of his songs from the Wham days...and the videos for Too Funky and Freedom. Of all the songs he did, I think my two favorite ones were Outside and Too Funky. I remember him saying when he started Too Funky, "What were you doing in 1990?" I personally was graduating from high school...but I distinctly remember listening to the remix of Too Funky walking around the campus of the University of Maryland, and the video for it was my first exposure I think to a "supermodel."
All in all good show...
Now it's time to work and hopefully get some sleep tonight.
